![]() So anyway, shooting along the 45 degree path with some running english should send the cue ball more or less towards the hole. Also, it might just work out because I subconsciously hit it in a way that MAKES it work. and the pocket itself has room for error, so maybe it arrives at the upper side of the pocket, not the heart of the pocket. the angle in is shallower which means the same amount of spin produces more than 4 degrees of extra widening. a longer distance to the pocket (so it lengthens out more). Those physics may include the fact that it's a shorter distance to the first rail (so sidespin may wear off less). But due to various physics things it goes even wider than that. It's coming into the rail at a true 45°, so if it widens by 4 degrees, it would leave at 49°, which points it a little north of the opposite corner. The second shot ALSO widens off the rail, by at least 4 degrees. it approaches at a ~43° angle and departs at ~47°. So the first shot "widens" by about 4 degrees after contact with the rail. It starts out less than 45, and ends up longer than 45. So the cue ball is not moving on a 45 degree line. Because you can't send the cue ball to the middle of the long rail, there's a pocket in the way. The first shot was not a perfect mirror track from corner, to side, to corner. That might not seem to make sense at first, but here's why. You would think that if you shift 1 diamond over, and hit 1 diamond above the side pocket, you would therefore land 1 diamond above the opposite corner (dashed black line).īut it tends to run longer than that for a couple of reasons, it may actually go into the opposite corner too, if you hit it the same way as you hit the first shot. ![]() If you set the cue ball in a corner, and hit just in front of the opposite side pocket, you can sink it in the opposite corner with a little top, or a little running, depending on the table conditions (solid black line). Shot 2 is (probably) adjusting 1 diamond off a corner-to-corner kicking track, which actually tends to send the cue ball towards the corner also.Shot 1 is the system megatron mentioned.but the usual warning should apply: you really need feel, and in some cases he's using feel in addition to the system. I use systems a lot, so I feel pretty sure I know what he's using.
